BREAKING: The Wedge closes its OG location
Lease deadlock causes local pizzeria to slice off the oldest of its three stores
When The Wedge Pizzeria first opened in 2006, Oklahoma City’s pizza game was bereft of talent. Nearly two decades later, the concept has outlived the umbrella group whence it came and it grew into three locations.
The Deep Fork Restaurant Group that birthed it is no more, selling off its three locations to a local group that also operates The Catch locations. But like The Deep Fork Group, the original Wedge Pizzeria location at 4709 N Western has shuttered leaving two locations serving the 405 diningscape.
Operations manager Jason Coursey confirmed on Monday that The Wedge shuttered the Western Avenue location last week and that it would not reopen.
“We just couldn’t come to terms with the landlord,” Coursey said.
He said remaining locations downtown and in Midwest City remain open and ready to serve.
“I’ve got a customer in here for lunch right now he used to frequent the Western location,” Coursey said. “We’re discussing the very same thing.”
I’m planning to have lunch tomorrow at the downtown location and will have more details later this week, plus an update on how I’m going about finding the best pizza in Oklahoma.
Kevin Lee’s second dinner is SOLD OUT!
Great job Food Dood Feeders, Friday’s pop-up at Birdie’s by Chef Kevin Lee sold out in about an hour. When and if there is another pop-up, subscribers will be the first to know.
I’ll have some coverage of this Friday’s event, which will hopefully include an update on when we can expect the grand opening. Kevin hopes to open next week, but Friday’s event and one other private event this week will answer whether or not he is ready. Let us not forget there is a labor shortage going on out there.
