Mexican Radio will close in two weeks then reopen in Midtown this summer
Last day of dinner service in The Plaza is March 10; fast-casual in the forecast
A Good Egg Dining announced Monday it will close Mexican Radio in the NW 16th Street Plaza District in March and reopen it in Midtown this summer featuring counter-service instead of full-service.
“We have tons of respect for the Plaza District and truly appreciate everyone who visited Mexican Radio in this location over the last five years,” A Good Egg co-founder and CEO Keith Paul said in a release. “We have continued to refine our concept post-pandemic and believe a counter-service model is the final piece of the plan.”
Tacos, house-made chips and frozen drinks will remain, you’ll just have to go to Midtown to get them. Where in Midtown will be revealed once the new lease is put to bed.
“I have always thought of Mexican Radio as the quirky little sister to Barrios,” said Heather Paul, co-founder and CCO of A Good Egg said. “The opportunity to move just around the corner from our sister restaurant is so valuable. We can’t wait to see our team own this new experience and welcome back our guests to this colorful, any-day-of-the week taco stop for neighbors, friends, and family.”
The Pauls began A Good Egg Dining Group in 2000 when they purchased Cheever’s Café. That’s grown into nine concepts, including Tucker’s Onion Burgers, Red Primesteak, Iron Star BBQ, and The Drake.
Mexican Radio’s move follows the departure of Oak & Ore at the end of November, leaving Roxy’s Ice Cream by itself on the south side of 16th in the heart of The Plaza. No word on who might fill the vacancies.
Roxy’s Ice Cream won’t have to miss Mexican Radio long. Roxy’s just opened a new location next-door to Barrios Fine Mexican Dishes in Midtown.
