You know it’s too late to say Happy New Year when emails like the one I got from A Good Egg Dining today.
The email in question was a bit of a surprise in that previous conversation with A Good Egg president Keith Paul led me to believe this sad day might have come sooner. And that is the sad day coming very soon, Feb. 1 to be exact, when we bid bon voyage to The Drake Seafood and Oysterette.
Final dinner service comes on that evening, read the email. and “We want to express our deepest appreciation to everyone who has been a part of The Drake’s incredible 10-year journey. From our passionate team members to our loyal guests and the vibrant Oklahoma City community, your support and shared love of seafood have defined the spirit of this restaurant.”
Those words offered from AGE’s co-founder and COO, Heather Paul via email. AGE co-founder/CEO and Heather’s hubby, Keith Paul offer these: “As we close this chapter on The Drake’s story, we are thankful for the countless warm memories created within these walls. It has been a privilege to serve our community.”
It’s now or never to get gather up your pals and drop by for one first or last shot at The Treasure Chest. Some of my fondest memories with some of my favorite at The Drake. Usually involving the Treasure Chest, but not always. Lemon Cloud Pie? Always and forever among what the late, great chef John Bennett used to call “the good stuff.” If you happen by, raise a spoonful of Lemon Cloud to JB.
23rd Street seems to be struggling with the Pump and now The Drake? Any thoughts on the district overall?
A couple of Saturdays ago we drove by on our way from dinner at Patrono to Boomtown and noticed maybe two tables at 8:30pm, so we made reservations for dinner there next week since it had been a while since we'd eaten there. I'm sad to see it go but I'm not surprised, since it seemed to be a spot Good Egg hadn't appeared to invest much in reminding folks it was still open and still great.
