Morgan Chappell joins Food Dood & Friends to talk blue ribbons

Gates fly open to the Oklahoma State Fair on Thursday, hope you’ve modified your fried-food intake accordingly.

Of course, I’ve got the list of all the newest deep-fried, chocolate-dipped, bacon-wrapped items on a stick to expect this year below. But Julie Porter Scott and I recorded a Food Dood & Friends Podcast with Morgan Chappell is the Creative Programs Director who overseas and manages all the goings-on in the Creative Arts Building.

That’s where you’ll find all the blue-ribbon winning cakes, pies, breads, and wines from around the state. It’s also where there is full schedule of live  food competitions throughout the fair’s run. The Creative Arts Building also hosts art competitions and displays all the winning entries. It’s a great place to stroll through air-conditioned corridors adorned with creative expression from around the state.

Along with the new food items, the fair has a variety of new food-related experiences to visit:

OK!toberfest: At the Fest Tent, you’ll find German beer, bratwurst and German potato salad from Harvell Concessions plus wine and live music.

Urban Homesteading Expo: On Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., the Urban Homesteading Expo will features tips on growing your own food, raising animals, and lessons in self-reliance.

Taste of the Fair Tuesday:  Four bucks will get you gate admission, a Little Book of BIG DEALS, a ride on the Sky Eye Wheel ride and much more.

Wine & Palette: On September 19 from 4 to 6 p.m., enjoy painting classes and vino. Canvases, paint and aprons will be provided. Pre-registered guests can grab their favorite fair food beforehand, and make their way to the Special Events Area.
